From the beginning of human existence, a wealth of cultural and spiritual practices, and ritualized experiences, have emerged to help regulate socio-emotional responses, and to spark deep transformation, away from fear, violence and separation. These practices are part of a vast reservoir of human knowledge, yet are too often ignored or forgotten. With your help, we are progressively documenting a range of practices from around the world, analyzing their components, and mobilizing high level research teams to better understand the potential of these practices to rewire the brain for peace. We hope to contribute to the development of scientific knowledge, extending our reach far beyond the practices most familiar to the West.
Part of our motivation is to move beyond standardized prescriptions such as yoga and mindfulness, and to develop a more nuanced, diverse and culturally embedded repertoire of practices, leveraging existing resources present in every society, and supporting individuals and communities where they are.
This database is also here to inspire you, our visitors, to look into your own repertoire of individual and community resources and practices and find what can support you and those around you.
