As founding director of the Global Media Center for Social Impact (GMI) at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, Sandra infuses television, movies, music and new media with socially provocative storylines to elevate health and wellbeing worldwide. Awarded the World Film Institute’s Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2014 and The Female Eye Honorary Maverick Award in 2015, Sandra works extensively with Hollywood, Bollywood, and other creative capitals of the world to inspire and develop storylines that have profound impact on consciousness and behavior. In partnership with the Writers Guild of America West, Sandra connects writers and producers to experts on topics of social value to inspire and inform their scripts. As an international speaker on storytelling for transformation, Sandra inspires and catalyzes audiences worldwide. As founder of the emerging Story Collaboratory, Sandra is creating a global platform for conscious storytelling that will elevate and unite us on a journey of the heart aimed at leaps in consciousness. Curating stories for peace, mindfulness, forgiveness, social justice, wellbeing and love, the Story Collaboratory will unite a global conscious storytelling community, curate real stories of real people, provide skills building on storytelling aligned with universal truths, and connect storytellers to creative capitals around the world. Formerly director of Hollywood, Health & Society, Sandra provided resources to Hollywood’s creative community with the goal of improving the accuracy of health-related storylines on top television programs and films. This groundbreaking work resulted in 565 storylines that aired on 91 television shows across 35 networks from 2009-2012. For her work, Sandra was named by PODER Magazine as one of the “100 Most Influential Hispanics in America” in 2012. Sandra de Castro Buffington is a pioneering force in storytelling for social change. Sandra seeks to elevate consciousness and wellbeing by encouraging the soul’s expression through storytelling and by mainstreaming portrayals of social justice, health, nonviolence and consciousness in entertainment media.
